Most freshmen students are buoyant with expectations about becoming university students. Unlike high school or middle school, the greatest advantage of university life is that students can do whatever they really want and through a variety of activities they can find their own interests. Moreover, students who are about to become
undergraduates also dream about having close senior-junior relationships and close friendships. However, usually freshmen worry about making good relationships with alumni or finding interesting activities at university.

Here is the solution for this concern. With club activities, freshmen dreams come true! Through club activities, students can meet friends and older students. Also they can do things by themselves and it does not have to be academic. Indeed, there are a lot of club activities that collegians can do in EWHA.

EWHA Womans University clubs are mainly divided into 3 parts – performance, community and sports. Performance clubs include those involving, dance, musicals, glee, plays, hip-hop, jazz, and instrumental music. Community clubs serve the community by offering volunteer work to the local community. There are clubs for educating children, educating female migrants, constructing shelters, painting outdoor walls, teaching Korean to foreign exchange students, and giving baths to disabled and senior citizens. Sports clubs include kendo, yachting, skiing, taekwondo, scuba-diving, and soccer. This article will introduce a club from each of the three parts – Heal, the performance dancing club; EKLES, the club where members teach Korean to exchange students; and FC social, the soccer club

HEAL

Do you like dancing? Then, how about joining the dance club “Heal”. You might be familiar with this club, because Heal’s performance video was uploaded to Facebook with explosive responses. The dance club name ‘Heal’ literally means that the members will not only heal audiences by performance but also heal themselves by dancing. Since 2008, ‘Heal’ membership consists of EWHA Womans University students only. However, as they have become famous, they have actively held performances both inside and outside the school. Moreover the ‘Heal’ also has a lot of exchange activities with other co-ed university dance clubs.

Crews of the club ‘Heal’ mainly deal with girls’ hip-hop but are also good at creating choreography and doing a dance called “waaking”, which is a kind of street dance. They practice regularly for the various performances every Wednesday and Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m during the semester except for the 2 weeks before the exam period. To promote friendships between members, there are get-together meetings such as a reception for new students, dinners, and membership trips. With the club ‘Heal’ you not only dance but also make friends with students from EWHA and from other colleges. Even if you are not good at dancing, ‘Heal’ will welcome you if you have strong passion and can practice sincerely. So how about enjoying campus life with dance?

EKLES

EKLES is an acronym for EWHA Korean Language Education Society. Students who are interested in Korean language education gather and teach Korean to foreign exchange students. Every Thursday, students discuss teaching methods and share the information and experience. Each student of EKLES takes one foreign student and teaches Korean language once or twice a week. Also, there are several cultural events to feel and enjoy Korean culture. These include making Gimbab, celebrating Hangul Proclamation Day, and visiting the Korean Folk Village.

It is good for EWHA students that they can develop a sense of responsibility by teaching someone, make various friends from all over the world, and exchange culture. Moreover, it is good for foreign exchange students because they can have private lessons, and can focus on whatever they want to improve in Korean Language. They can also learn Korean culture with Korean friends. It might be helpful to feel and understand Korea more effectively. Therefore, participation in EKLES can be a great challenge for both EWHA and exchange students.

FC SOCIAL

FC Social is the EWHA soccer club. It is made of students from the Social Science College. It was founded in 2009 by the class of 06-09 seniors and it has continued. The FC club organizes those who are interested in soccer. The club has had many good results as it has won various prizes. Despite these successes, championship club activities not only involve playing, but also trip members have formal practice three to four times a week. Members are very close together and feel like they are part of a family.

In conclusion, as you can see, there are so many kinds of clubs in EWHA. There are dancing clubs, sports clubs, community clubs and so on. It is good when you choose the clubs according your preference. Entering the other clubs that you had not experienced before is helpful for your development. If you don’t know which clubs to choose, it is a good idea to ask about clubs to your seniors. It is up to you to find out how you can enjoy the campus life. So don’t be afraid to join clubs and make your campus memories.
